“How can the opera reach a new, heterogeneous and non-elite audience and be perceived not as an inaccessible event but rather as a moment of shared culture and a form of intelligent entertainment?”
This time the answer is a special place, the micro world of Danisinni a neighbourhood rediscovered in the historic centre of Palermo and venue for a popular and captivating production such as l’Elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti.
L’elisir di Danisinni: the open-air allotment and farm also play a key role in the show, as do local residents who are not only invited to watch the rehearsals but also to take part in the production. Their role in the event is primarily an experiment, a “collective opera” that aims to create an engaging performance set in a poetic and surreal urban landscape that has no equal anywhere in the world: Danisinni.
