A year has gone by since the second edition of OperaCamion and the opera’s journey in town squares continues with the story of another central figure of music and literature: Rigoletto. One of the most well-known and represented compositions by Verdi leaves the theatre and meets spectators in Rome and Lazio in a reduced format, ready to dazzle with a company of singers, musicians, actors and technicians. The stage becomes an expressionist landscape made of narrow tunnels, false perspectives and dangerous gorges. The show expresses the spirit of the unbridled force of the character leading a double and cruel existence, a poetic and at the same time fragile Rigoletto forced to wear a hump as a mark of survival, in whose story, comic and tragic, farce and reality mix. With Gianluigi Toccafondo, who signs the visual setting for the project, we imagined this Operacamion Rigoletto as a melodrama from the early 1900s, a sequence of frames and scenes dense with action and emotion, where the deception and betrayal animating the court of the Duke of Mantova are woven into the desperate attempts of the court clown to save his daughter from Palace corruption which makes everything impure and vulgar. The truck doubles for the first time: The Palace becomes the container, acted above and under its sideboards. On the side a tower with a tunnel access – a hidden slide -: the world of Rigoletto, a treasure chest to hide Gilda, character inspired by Doctor Caligari’s Jane. A story, Rigoletto’s, with a twisted, relentless plot in which everything races to a tragic ending, in a whirling spiral of thrills and unforgettable musical scores. The voices of an international cast of young singers vibrates on the notes of the Opera di Roma’s young orchestra. Even this year Rigoletto – OperaCamion is ready to win the street audience with its vitality.
